I am writing this letter to express my deep dissatisfaction with the current political and social climate in our country. While I respect everyone’s right to hold their beliefs, I firmly believe in the importance of voicing our disagreements and engaging in constructive dialogue. I find myself at odds with many of the actions and decisions emanating from our nation’s capital and various state governments. Over the past several weeks, I have closely followed the chaos and unrest that have unfolded across the nation, which has led me to feel compelled to speak out.
As someone who has extended family in law enforcement, including police officers and firefighters and military personnel, I have a profound appreciation for the sacrifices made by those who safeguard our communities. These individuals put their lives on the line each day, and it is frustrating to see the independent party consistently marginalized in our electoral process. I have often pondered whether I should change my political affiliation to align with candidates who genuinely represent my beliefs, particularly since I perceive significant shortcomings in both the Republican and Democratic parties.
With regard to the pressing issue of illegal immigration, I want to be unequivocal: my stance is resolute. I personally know individuals who suffered immensely due to the September 11 attacks, and I have witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of COVID-19 on families, including some who lost loved ones to the virus. Therefore, I maintain that individuals who are in this country without proper documentation should face removal. It is unacceptable for anyone to think they can enter our nation and expect to benefit without contributing or adhering to our laws, regardless of their background or any criminal history they may have.
It is essential for everyone to recognize that non-citizens do not possess the same rights as legal citizens of the United States. While I understand that there are certain legal protections established for undocumented individuals, I firmly believe that they should not enjoy the same rights as those who are lawful citizens. A balanced approach is crucial for maintaining the integrity of our immigration system, ensuring that we uphold the values and rights of those who have earned their place in this great nation.
