Twenty-five years ago on 9/11, my ex lost his brother in the North Tower of the World Trade Centre. Life has never been the same for me, even though he and I have had a rollercoaster relationship and dated for 3 out of 21 years. There was a time in my life when I said I would never date a firefighter. I thought I would never know someone who died on 11 September. Iβve achieved both of those things, which I never thought I would, but my current relationship is with a former firefighterβdifferent from my first fiancΓ©. Even though we are no longer together, I still have a mindset similar to my former mother-in-law. βYou never know what itβs like until you have your sonβs jaw in a mayonnaise jar.β That was all they found of my ex-brother-in-lawβjust a lower mandible. I know there is a secret room in the 11 September museum where they keep the remains of the unidentified. That room is sacred ground, and the public is not allowed entry. There is a private room for the βmorgue,β and also a family grieving roomβonly accessible to families. No cameras are allowed in those rooms, so we will never know what happens behind closed doorsβand thatβs perfectly fine. Yesterday, I knew what my ex was doing because I had spoken with him the day before. Iβve given him grace in some areas and been more on top of things in others. He and I are still on friendly terms, though our friendship has been tested by actions that were not my own. Yesterday, I did post some things on Facebook because I wanted a diary of events, even though I did not put them on my website. I have multiple pages on Facebook where I share things so I donβt clutter my personal timeline. Regarding the new mayor of New York City, I was not happy that he was there, nor was I happy that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was there. They are not Christian people, nor are they American-bornβthey should not be in power of any sort. I do not believe foreign-born individuals should hold power in the United States, especially when their actions on Patriot Day were so nauseating. There are many things I would change if I were in a position of power, but I am just one voice among thousands and probably one of the ones formerly called the silent majorityβand I am no longer silent. I started my online journal in 2014, initially as a way to remember things. My inspiration was Perez Hilton, who still inspires my journaling. I know he is going through a very difficult phase in life. I know thereβs some amnesia, and other mental health issues out there. But I stand firm in my faith and in the training I received from him. I hope you read this and realise that 11 September is something that must always be remembered, and those we lost should never be forgotten.
