Ogo Yarn * Random Rant

Hello and welcome to another entry. This is going to be about yarn, crochet, and knitting. I grew up knitting and have been doing it randomly over the past 30-some-odd years, since the 90s. I’ve used a lot of yarn and unfortunately, the quality of yarn has gone downhill when it comes to the “value side of things.” It feels like certain brands have lost their quality, texture, and thickness, but the prices go up instead of staying reasonable. I hate to be a yarn snob, but I am because I have eczema, and if I cannot work with a yarn without it causing me to itch, there’s a serious problem.

I started with Yarnspirations (hashtag YarnInspirations) and now, some of their series have such poor quality that I refuse to purchase them. I recently donated 6 to 8 bags of yarn, and a lot of it was Red Heart. While the colors were nice, the quality wasn’t up to par. Currently, I am working with OGO Red Heart Super Saver, and it is better and thicker, but not as soft as I’d prefer. I know it’s due to the dye and the colors, but I can work with it. I am going to be making more pillow panels because they can double as placemats and small animal blankets. I am also going to be making a lot of potholders because they don’t take too much yarn, and even though I have a full stash, I don’t want to buy yarn every month.

I’m also back in the gym and have lost 18 pounds. I’ve achieved my goal from earlier this year to remove the need for a walking aid. I still want to lose another 5 to 10 pounds, leaving it up to fate. I will continue to purchase extra-large T-shirts because I like them roomy.

When it comes to the non-dairy/eczema/allergy side of life, I sometimes slip up and have regular dairy, but I pay for it with eczema flare-ups. I have to remind myself that I’m allergic to anything with lactose, sucralose, artificial sweeteners, alcohol, and anything carbonated as they trigger my eczema.
