I am taking a proactive approach to my health and mental well-being, especially after the challenging journey of the past 4.5 years. My healing truly began when I moved to the basement of my house, creating a space where I have control over my environment. I start each day with my supplements and mental health medication, and I embrace the freedom to engage in creative activities that resonate with me, whether for profit, donation, or my personal collection.
When I mention profit, I donβt mean running a business; itβs about the joy of sharing my knitwear with those who appreciate it, who sometimes offer to cover shipping costs. I also happily donate my creations. Iβve made scarves for military members, gifts for the less fortunate, and dishcloths for family and friends. My knitting journey started back in the 90s with my Nana on a Caribbean island, and I got my start by contributing dishcloths to the local church bazaar.
Despite being a witchy woman, I would love to find a local organization to donate my dishcloths and other small items. I enjoy making these crafts regularly, and I know they donβt always need to be cotton-based. My yarn stash has grown significantly, much of it stockpiled during the pandemic, and while not all of it is top-notch quality, it’s still perfectly usableβas long as it doesnβt irritate my eczema. I have enough yarn to last through 2026, which is fantastic, and Iβll fill in any gaps with new favorites that catch my eye.
I’ve also fallen in love with my sleeping bonnet. I wear it not just during the night but also when my eczema flares up; it helps prevent scratching my scalp. Iβve always struggled with an itchy scalp and sensitive skin, which is why Iβve switched to gentle products like Native & Pacifica branded body wash and shampoo. My scalp can’t handle much variability, so I stick to what works.
As for my next knitting project, I need to make some coasters for a friend using a new yarn. Iβm excited to try it out, and while I worry about potentially loving it too much, I’m committed to being mindful of my choices, especially regarding shipping quality.
Regarding crafting stores, I donβt frequent Joannβs or Michaels much, and I prefer shopping online for yarn. I enjoy the comfort of home, away from crowds and unfamiliar people. It might seem odd for someone whoβs outgoing, but opening up to new people has its challenges. My small circle of friends and my dog is all I need; my dog is truly my best friend, my ride or die. As a Chihuahua mom, I know the dog calls the shots, and I’m perfectly okay with that.
I recently recovered from a severe allergy attack that kept me in bed for two and a half days, and it reinforced my understanding that I donβt need to spend time outdoors unnecessarily. I embrace my indoor lifestyle in the basement as long as I have good food, juice, and basic comforts. My yarn stash is essential to my happiness and creativity, and Iβm excited to see what Iβll create next!
